LUBBOCK, Texas — BYU softball dropped game two at No. 2 Texas Tech, 10-1 in five innings at Tracy Sellers Field on Friday night.

BOX SCORE

The Cougars (11-24, 2-9 Big 12) saw the Red Raiders plate nine runs in the second, ultimately the difference in the run-rule contest.

Player Highlights

BYU put two in scoring position to start the second inning with Hailey Shuler singling off the third base bag, Ilove’a Brittingham earning a four-pitch walk and Bre Townsend sacrifice bunting them over, but consecutive pop outs squandered the opportunity.

Texas Tech blew the game open in the home half of the frame, batting through its order to score nine runs on six hits, including a pair of home runs, and five walks.

The Cougars got on the board in the fourth on a Shuler double to right center, bringing her home as Townsend reached on a TTU fielding error for a 9-1 score.

The Red Raiders got that run right back in the bottom of the inning with a single, stolen base and double to make it 10-1.

BYU put its leadoff runner aboard when Maddie Udall-Woolley was hit by a pitch, moving her to second on a Miranda Mansfield sacrifice bunt, but consecutive strikeouts wrapped up the second game of the series in five frames.
