IRVING, Texas – Jane Hedengren was named the Big 12 Women’s Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Stanford Invitational, the conference announced Wednesday.

Hedengren earned the recognition after a standout performance at Friday’s Stanford Invitational, where she shattered the NCAA 10,000-meter record, eclipsing Florida’s Parker Valby’s previous time by nearly four seconds. The freshman claimed victory by finishing more than three seconds ahead of reigning NCAA 10,000m champion Pamela Kosgei of New Mexico. Her record-setting mark also stands as the seventh-fastest time ever recorded by an American.

Hedengren secured the conference weekly honor for the second time in her track career, contributing to the third such award earned by a BYU woman this season, alongside Riley Chamberlain, who received the recognition on Feb. 16.
