PROVO, Utah – No. 72 BYU men’s tennis looks to get back in the win column after four straight defeats in its home finale against No. 27 Arizona State at the Outdoor Tennis Courts on Thursday at 4 p.m. MDT.
The Cougars are coming off a pair of 4-0 losses to top 10 teams TCU and Baylor, dropping their record to 13-7 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play.
Player Spotlight
This year’s senior night game will feature the farewells of three Cougars: Adam Chodur, Alex Edmonston and Redd Owen.
Chodur transferred to BYU after two seasons at Sacramento State, where he earned second-team All-Big Sky honors in both singles and doubles and posted a 16-3 singles record as a sophomore. Since joining the Cougars, he has been a consistent contributor, appearing in 21 dual matches during the 2024-25 season. As a junior, he earned CSC Academic All-District honors while compiling an 11-7 record, primarily at the No. 3 singles position. This season, Chodur has held the No. 1 singles spot in every match, recording a 9-8 singles mark and a 7-7 doubles record on the top court.
Edmonston has spent the past three seasons with BYU after beginning his collegiate career at Concordia. Across his career, he has posted an 11-7 singles record and a 17-13 mark in doubles play. This fall, he captured the Dar Walters Classic doubles title alongside Tygen Goldammer. He also compiled an 8-6 doubles record during the fall season, as well as a 7-5 record in singles.
Owen has been a key contributor for BYU throughout his collegiate career, competing in all 22 dual matches during the 2023-24 season while earning CSC Academic All-District honors. He recorded 12 singles wins that year, including a 10-2 start that helped the Cougars to a 10-match winning streak. In 2024-25, Owen has appeared across multiple singles positions, posting a 7-11 record while competing in 19 dual matches. He also clinched a pivotal match against No. 11 UCF, securing BYU’s highest-ranked win in more than 25 years.

Scouting the Sun Devils
Arizona State enters Thursday’s match on the heels of back-to-back ranked wins, including a 4-0 victory at Oklahoma State, bringing its record to 16-8 on the season.
Arizona State features one ranked singles player in Bor Artnak, who is No. 59 in singles nationally with an 8-5 record. Artnak has not appeared in the Sun Devils’ last four matches while competing in an ATP Challenger event in Mexico City.
Additionally, the Big 12 announced Niels Villard as the Big 12 player of the week after two singles wins and a doubles victory over the Cowboys.
So far this season, ASU is 4-3 on the road and 3-3 in conference play, placing the program fifth in the Big 12 standings. BYU sits in seventh.
Historically, the Cougars have an edge against the Sun Devils, leading the all-time series 15-8. The programs have only faced each other twice in the past 20 years, with Arizona State winning 4-2 last year in Tempe and 7-0 in 2008. This will be ASU’s first trip to Provo in more than 25 years.
