PROVO, Utah – BYU men’s track and field prepares to defend three Big 12 titles at the 2026 Big 12 Outdoor Championships May 14-16 at Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Arizona.

Seniors Ben Barton and James Corrigan return to the Big 12 Championships a year after Barton won the decathlon and Corrigan won the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000-meter. 

Barton, an All-American and the No. 4 all-time BYU record holder in the decathlon will compete in the long jump, high jump, 110-meter hurdles and will anchor the 4x400-meter relay.

Corrigan, who holds the BYU school record in the steeplechase, will return to defend his title in the event. The Olympian is also expected to make a run at defending his other title in the 5000m, an event which he holds the No. 4 all-time BYU record in.

Thursday, Kaden Passey will open competition for the Cougars in the decathlon with Brinton Paulson, Carson Riner and Hayden Gribble competing in the javelin throw.

Off the heels of his national title in the indoor mile, Carter Cutting will appear in the 1500-meter alongside teammate Caleb Johnson

Garrett Copelin, Logan Hubler, Jayden Jessee and Treyton Anderson are set to compete in the 400-meter hurdles. Hubler, a senior, holds the No. 8 all-time BYU record in the event.

Creed Thompson will headline the 10,000-meter a year after finishing second at the 2025 Big 12 Championships in the event appearing alongside his twin brother Davin Thompson as well as teammates Dalton Mortensen and Hunter Kitchen.

Friday, Mark Bryant and Tyler Poole will compete in the shot put before Barton and Jessee appear in the long jump. Jessee, Copelin, Barton and Anderson will then compete in the 110m hurdles. 

Brayden Packard will appear in the 800-meter alongside Cutting, who set the No. 8 all-time BYU record in the event at the Robison Invitational and sits at No. 4 this season in the Big 12.

Silas Zimmerman and Dallin Thornton are set to compete in the pole vault with Josh Taylor, Jonah Heimuli and Ty Oustrich expected to appear in the 400-meter.

Corrigan will then headline the steeplechase being joined by Garrett Stanford, Jefferson McMullin, Jackson Henstrom and Max Davis

Saturday, Gribble, Connor Saunders and Barton will open the day in the high jump closely followed by Bryant and Poole in the discus. 

The finals of the 110m hurdles, 400m, 800m and 400m hurdles will then take the track before nearly the entire distance group competes in the 5000m.

Corrigan is set to defend his Big 12 title in the event alongside two-time school record holder Tayvon Kitchen, Isaac Hedengren, Hunter Kitchen, Stanford, Mortensen, Noah Jenkins, both Thompson brothers, Henstrom, Johnson and McMullin.

The 4x400m relay group featuring Heimuli, Oustrich, Taylor and Barton will then close competition for BYU.
