PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golfer Peter Kim fired a 7-under 65 in Sunday’s final round to earn low amateur honors at the 2026 Larry H. Miller Utah Open at Riverside Country Club.
Kim tied for seventh at 15 under to finish as the tournament’s top amateur. Twenty-one current or former Cougars competed in the final round, with seven placing in the top 10.
“It means a lot to win low amateur at our home course and compete against a lot of current and past teammates,” Kim said. “Lots of great players have done well in the Utah Open, so it is nice to be on the same track.”
Kim recorded seven birdies without a bogey in the final round. After a birdie on the opening hole, he added three more on Nos. 5, 8 and 9. He made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 before adding another on No. 16 to close out his tournament.
“I just tried to play my best and shoot a low number to climb the leaderboard as much as I could,” Kim said.
BYU alumni Cole Ponich and Rhett Rasmussen tied for second at 19 under for the best finish among the Cougars. Ponich made six birdies on the front nine, including three consecutive on Nos. 7-9. He added three more birdies, a bogey and an eagle on the back nine to card a 10-under 62.
Rasmussen fired a 6-under 66 in the final round. He made two birdies, an eagle and a bogey on the front nine before adding four birdies and a bogey after the turn.
