PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golfer Peter Kim fired a 7-under 65 in Sunday’s final round to earn low amateur honors at the 2026 Larry H. Miller Utah Open at Riverside Country Club.

Kim tied for seventh at 15 under to finish as the tournament’s top amateur. Twenty-one current or former Cougars competed in the final round, with seven placing in the top 10.

“It means a lot to win low amateur at our home course and compete against a lot of current and past teammates,” Kim said. “Lots of great players have done well in the Utah Open, so it is nice to be on the same track.”

Kim recorded seven birdies without a bogey in the final round. After a birdie on the opening hole, he added three more on Nos. 5, 8 and 9. He made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 13 and 14 before adding another on No. 16 to close out his tournament.

“I just tried to play my best and shoot a low number to climb the leaderboard as much as I could,” Kim said.

BYU alumni Cole Ponich and Rhett Rasmussen tied for second at 19 under for the best finish among the Cougars. Ponich made six birdies on the front nine, including three consecutive on Nos. 7-9. He added three more birdies, a bogey and an eagle on the back nine to card a 10-under 62.

Rasmussen fired a 6-under 66 in the final round. He made two birdies, an eagle and a bogey on the front nine before adding four birdies and a bogey after the turn.

Former Cougars Tyson Shelley and Carson Lundell tied for fifth at 16 under. Shelley carded a 3-under 69 with seven birdies and four bogeys, while Lundell closed with a 2-under 70.

Recent graduate Simon Kwon shot a 1-under 71 to join Kim in a tie for seventh at 15 under. Rising sophomore Jackson Mauss rounded out the top 10 at 14 under after carding a 2-under 70.

Senior Angus Klintworth and former Cougar Keanu Akina tied for 12th at 12 under, while Zac Jones finished 21st at 10 under.

Sophomore Parker Bunn and BYU alumnus Joseph Summerhays tied for 22nd at 9 under. Former Cougar Kelton Hirsch and incoming transfer David Liechty tied for 28th at 7 under.

Justin Keiley tied for 33rd at 6 under, while Cole Ogden tied for 36th at 5 under. Former Cougars David Timmins, Clay Ogden and Steve Schneiter finished 40th, 46th and 53rd, respectively.

Incoming freshman Austin Shelley rounded out the current BYU players in the field, tying for 60th, while Ryan Rhees tied for 67th.

Former University of Utah golfer Blake Tomlinson won the tournament at 21 under, two strokes ahead of Ponich and Rasmussen.
