GUADALAJARA, Mexico — BYU guard Delaney Gibb and Team Canada advanced to the semifinals of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament after going 3-0 in group play.
The Canadians were perfect in the opening round, defeating Senegal, the Philippines and Mexico to earn six points — the most of any team in group play. Brazil, Mexico and New Zealand each finished with five points to secure the remaining three semifinal spots.
Gibb averaged 5.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 17.1 minutes per game over the three contests to help Canada advance to the semifinals.
She opened the tournament with a 13-point performance in a 72-57 win over Senegal on Monday. The rising sophomore went 4-for-7 from the field and 3-for-5 from 3-point range, adding three assists and two steals in the win.
The Raymond, Alberta, native scored three points in Canada’s 85-38 win over the Philippines while contributing across the stat sheet with seven rebounds, two on the offensive glass, four assists, a steal and a block. In the group-play finale, Gibb grabbed five rebounds in a 70-64 win over Mexico.
Canada will face New Zealand in the semifinals on Saturday, Aug. 22, at 5:30 p.m. MT. The game will stream live on Courtside 1891.
