Gibb's 17 points lead Canada to Olympic Pre-Qualifier Final

Delaney Gibb turned in a 17-point, 3-assist, 2-steal performance to lift Canada over New Zealand and into the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament final on Saturday.

GUADALAJARA, Mexico — BYU guard Delaney Gibb scored 17 points to lead Canada to an 86-71 victory over New Zealand in the semifinals of the FIBA Women’s Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament on Saturday.

Gibb played just 20 minutes, scoring 17 points on an efficient 7-for-13 shooting from the field, including two 3-pointers. She also added three assists, two steals and a rebound in the 15-point win over the Tall Ferns.

Canada shot 53 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from 3-point range while out-rebounding New Zealand 36-26. Michigan’s Syla Swords matched Gibb’s 17 points, Villanova’s Jasmine Bascoe scored 15 and South Carolina’s Agot Makeer contributed 11 for the Canadians.

With the win, Gibb and Canada advance to the tournament final on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 5:30 p.m. MT against the winner of the Mexico-Brazil semifinal. The game will stream live on Courtside 1891, with the champion securing a spot in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2028.
