PROVO, Utah – BYU’s Robert Wright III was named a 2026 College Sports Communicators Third Team Academic All-American on Tuesday morning.
He becomes the 12th player in program history and first since TJ Haws in 2020 to earn Academic All-American honors.
Wright III is one of five players from the Big 12 on the list, joined by Iowa State’s Tamin Lipsey, Kansas’ Flory Bidunga, Texas Tech’s JT Toppin and Arizona’s Tobe Awaka.
The sophomore earned Third Team All-Big 12 accolades in 2025-25 after averaging 18.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. His 162 assists are tied for the 10th most assists in a single season in program history, with his 632 points tying him with Danny Ainge (1977-78) for the 20th most points scored.
He scored in double figures 32 times, including 13 20-point performances and a pair of 30-point performances. He scored a career-high 39 points in BYU’s overtime victory over Colorado on Valentine’s Day.
The Wilmington, Del. native also had two double-doubles in his first season in Provo, highlighted by a 10-point, 11-assist performance in a 28-point victory over No. 23 Wisconsin. That is the most assists by a Cougar against a ranked opponent since 1996-97.
