PROVO, Utah – BYU head men’s basketball Kevin Young announced the addition of former four-star recruit Tyler Betsey to the roster for the 2026-27 season.
“We are excited to have Tyler join us at BYU," Young said. "We have put a focus on shooting this offseason, and he fits that profile after shooting 41 percent from three last season. At 6-foot-8, he has the ability to guard multiple positions. His ability to stretch the floor, along with his versatility and potential on the defensive end, make him a great fit.”
The native of Windsor, Conn. has appeared in 65 games during his collegiate career that includes stops at Syracuse and Cincinnati. He averages 4.9 points per game and shoots 37.3 percent from 3-point range on 3.1 attempts per contest.
During his sophomore season at Syracuse, Betsey appeared in 31 games, averaging 6.7 points per game while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 40.7 percent from three and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.

Betsy averaged 6.7 PPG and 2.8 REB in 18 min per game, shooting over 40% from 3PT (4.0 attempts per game).

He scored in double figures nine times, highlighted by a career-high 18-point performance against Florida State. He knocked down multiple 3-pointers 12 times, including a 6-of-9 outing from behind the arc in Syracuse’s 94-86 win over the Seminoles.
Betsey began his collegiate career at Cincinnati, appearing in 34 games in 2023-24 where he scored 113 points with 50 rebounds, 10 assists, five blocks and a steal. He scored a season-high nine points in a win over Grambling, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers.
The 6-foot-8 forward was a two-time Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year at St. Thomas Moore. The former four-star recruit averaged 23.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game as a senior, and scored a career-high 40 points in a win over John Abbott College. He averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as a junior, leading the Chancellors to a berth in the NEPSAC Class AAA Championship game.
