- At Buena High School he was named MVP in tennis for two years and compiled a 25-5 singles record and a 27-3 doubles record
- In 1978 and '79 he played on the Southern Arizona Jr. Davis Cup team
- Ranked No. 6 in the Southwest District in 1979
