- Recreation major
Before BYU
- Played four years of tennis at Dos Pueblos High
- Was a prep team captain
- MVP three years
- Won CIF doubles
- Junior college transfer from Santa Barbara City College, where he went undefeated in doubles for one year
- Compiled a a 25-3 record in singles and a 30-0 doubles competition as a JC player
- Named MVP both years as JC player
- His team was No. 2 in Southern Cal his sophomore year
- While a JC player he also won the Ojai Calley Junior College Tennis tourney
