Prior to BYU
Prior to BYU, Aaron taught social studies at East High School, in Salt Lake City, and was the head football coach from 2003 until his appointment at BYU in 2008. Each of his five seasons, he led the Leopards to the state playoffs (the first time since 1922, East has qualified five straight years). Aaron led East to the state semi-finals in 2005 and 2006 and to two straight Region VI titles, in 2006 and 2007. In 2005, Aaron received the state of Utahs sportsmanship award. In 2006, Aaron was named the Region VI coach of the year. From 2007 2008, Aaron has served as the president of the Utah Football Coaches Association. In addition to being the head football coach, Aaron was the head boys lacrosse coach for the last two years he was at East. He also assisted in basketball, baseball, and debate. In the classroom, Aaron served as the social studies department head, 2006 2008.

Aaron is married to Juli (formerly) Johnson. They have three children; Grace, Sophie, and James. They are expecting their fourth, shortly. They continue to reside in Salt Lake City.
