Alli Bills spent 12 years with the BYU womens basketball program. This is her second stint as an assistant coach for the Cougars. She was on the coaching staff during the 1999-2000 season, before returning to her alma mater as an assistant to Elaine Elliott for one year.
In the 2010-11 season the Cougar team tallied another impressive mark going 25-9 overall and 15-1 in their last year with the Mountain West Conference while clinching the 2011 regular season league crown. And, for the second straight time, participated in the WNIT advancing to the third round of the postseason tournament. Head coach Jeff Judkins picked up his third MWC Coach of the Year citation while senior guard Mindy Bonham garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors. Junior center Kristen Riley was named 6th Player of the Year.
During the 2009-10 campaign the Cougars compiled an impressive 23-10 overall record and finished second (11-5) in the MWC regular season race after being selected to finish fifth. In conference play, the team went 7-1 at home, and concluded the season with an 11-2 record in the Marriott Center.
Six players garnered 11 postseason MWC accolades. For the second straight year, junior Mindy Bonham was named to the All-MWC Second Team. She and teammate Jazmine Foreman were named to the All-Defensive Team. Junior Coriann Wood picked up the leagues first ever Sixth Player of they Year award. Wood added her second conference citation being named Honorable Mention All-MWC. Co-captain Haley Hall, and forward Kristen Riley were also Honorable Mention All-MWC.
The team participated in its 12th overall postseason appearance and fifth in the WNIT as the automatic qualifier from the MWC in the 2010 WNIT. BYU had an impressive showing recording a home win over Pepperdine before embarking on a six-day, three game schedule. They beat ASU in Tempe, defeated MWC foe Wyoming in Laramie, before falling to eventual champion, California. The Cougars advanced to the quarterfinals (Elite Eight) of the WNIT.
Bills, along with the rest of the coaching staff, also guided the Cougar team to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 2006 and 2007.
With the second youngest Division I womens basketball roster, the coaches guided the 2008-09 squad to an 18-11, 8-8/t-fifth record with junior Mindy Bonham (Nielson) garnering two MWC honors on the All-Conference Third Team and on the All-Defensive Team. Graduating seniors and co-captains Shawnee Slade and Cassie King were named Honorable Mention All-MWC. King was also named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic District 8 University Second Team.
The Cougar team recorded back-to-back MWC Regular Season Titles in 2006 and 2007 with players Ambrosia Anderson and Dani Wright being named MWC Co-Players of the Year those same seasons.
In her 11 years as an assistant coach at BYU, the BYU teams made five postseason berths including four NCAA appearances, one to the Sweet Sixteen (2001-02) and one WNIT. The coaching staff also ttook the 2005-06 team to its best finish in school history with 26-6 record and an appearance in the NCAA tournament. That same year the team clinched the MWC Regular Season Title and was ranked in the top 25 for most of the season.
As an assistant coach at Utah, she also led the team to a NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance in 2000-01.
During her collegiate career at the University of Utah, she was a member of two WAC All-Defensive teams in 1996-97 and 1997-98 as well as the 1997-98 All-Conference Team. She was also named to the District 7 Kodak All-American team. She held the national record for most assists during the 1996-97 season and a second-place finish the following year in the same category. Bills led both the conference and the school in assists during her four years at Utah. She also received the prestigious Occie Evans Award and was the co-Female Athlete of the Year.
After college, she played one season professionally in Switzerland and led the team in scoring and assists. Bills also played as a free agent with the Utah Starzz in the summer of 2000.
