Brad Eagar is in his first year as BYU?s volunteer assistant coach. Eagar was BYU?s starting catcher from 1986-89, following in the footsteps of his brother, Steve, who caught for the Cougars from 1983-84 and is now a TV news anchor for KDFW in Dallas. Brad?s 51 career homers ranks fourth in Cougar history. He hit 21 of those homers as a senior when he was selected first team All-Western Athletic Conference. He also holds the school record for six runs scored in a 1987 game. From 1986-88 Brad spent summers playing in Swift Current, Saskatchewan; Anchorage, Alaska; and Santa Maria, California. He was recently selected as one of the top 10 athletes in the 50-year history of Orem High School. He was drafted by the Seattle Mariners, sixth round in 1985 and drafted by the Oakland A?s after his senior year at BYU. Brad was named the Most Improved Player while playing short-season A ball for the Southern Oregon A?s in 1989. He graduated with his bachelor?s in psychology in 1992 from BYU. After being employed in the financial services industry for 14 years Brad has returned to BYU to work with the Cougars? catching corps.
Coach Eagar has completed five marathons in the past two years with a personal best time of 3:31:44. Two of his personal goals are to qualify for the Boston Marathon by the end of 2006 and to compete in an Ironman distance triathlon in 2007. Brad is married to wife, Teresa, has two daughters; Emilee 15, Allison 11, and a step-daughter Alexandra 13.
