Career Highlights
- Inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986
- Was a member of the Cougar Club Hall of Fame in 1979
- Was head coach of BYU men's basketball from 1949-72
- Accumulated a record of 371-254 and is the all-time winningest coach in BYU history
- Led BYU to eight conference titles, 11 postseason appearances and two NIT titles, 1951 and 1966
- Coached some of the best players in BYU basketball history, including All-Americans Mel Hutchins, Roland Minson, Joe Richey, Dean Larsen, Terry Tebbs, Tom Steinke, Gary Earnest, John Fairchild, Dick Nemelka and Kresimir Cosic (the first foreign All-American in NCAA history)
- Coached several NBA/ABA players: Jeff Congdon, Jim Eakins, John Fairchild, Bernie Fryer, Mel Hutchins (four-time All-Star and Co-Rookie of the Year in 1952), Steve Kramer, Dick Nemelka, Craig Raymond and Paul Ruffner
- Wrote the book Developing an Offensive Attack in Basketball (1958), a standard manual on the fast break offense
- Served on the Board of Directors for the National Association of Basketball Coaches from 1958-68 and was NABC president in 1970
- Coached at Millard High School, Dixie Junior College and Jordan High School and was BYU's freshman coach before assuming the head coaching role in 1949
