Third baseman Steve Parker was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. Parker, an American Fork, Utah, native, hit .471 (8-for-17) from the plate, with two home runs, four doubles, two RBI and four runs scored as BYU went 3-2 last week, including a three-game sweep over conference-foe Utah. In game one of a two-game series at No. 14 Oregon State, Parker went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs scored and a stolen base in a 7-6 loss. In game-two vs. the Beavers, he went 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, one RBI and two runs scored in an 8-4 loss. In the game-opening series vs. Utah, Parker went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in BYU’s 7-4 victory. In game two, he went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in the Cougars’ 12-7 win. He concluded the series with a 1-for-3 performance in BYU’s 3-2 win. Defensively, Parker tallied four putouts and seven assists with no errors from the third base position
Parker raised his batting average from .389 to .399 hast week. He has a current 12-game hitting streak and had a 1.059 slugging percentage last week. He was walked three times intentionally by Utah. In game one at Utah , he had a solo homer in game one to put BYU up 2-1 in the third and scored in the ninth when he was intentionally walked. In game two at Utah he scored both times he walked. In game three he threw out the Utah runner at home after the Ute had tripled in the eighth. He started a double play in the seventh inning of game two on a 543 inning ending double play.
Christie Zinanti - Softball - Junior - Pueblo, Colorado
Zinanti went 2-0, increasing her person win streak to seven games. She struck out 20 batters in 13 innings, limiting opponents to four earned runs.
Against Southern Utah Zinanti threw five-plus inning before being replaced. After the lead was blown, she re-entered the game and earned the win. She got out of a bases-loaded jam in both the sixth and seventh innings without allowing a run.
Zinanti allowed only one unearned run against UNLV. She gave up four hits and struck out 11 batters to tie her career high, set earlier this season. Despite the Cougars' four errors, Zinanti worked to keep UNLV from scoring runs. She left the bases loaded twice with strikeouts to end the fourth and sixth innings without allowing a run.
