The BYU baseball team will travel to the Caribbean island of Curaçao, Nov. 23-27, to play a three-game series versus the Curaçao National Team. In addition to the baseball games, the Cougars will participate in a service project and a fireside.
“We are all looking forward to our trip to Curaçao,” BYU coach Mike Littlewood said. “We are excited to do service with the members of the Church down there, as well as work with the youth in the community. Taking a foreign trip is a special opportunity that only happens once every four years so we hope to make the most of our experience.”
The three-game series, known as The Curaçao Cup, is an annual event featuring a U.S. college baseball team in a series against the Curaçao National Team. In the inaugural Curaçao Cup in 2015, Curaçao won two of the three games against Dallas Baptist University.
Curaçao, a Dutch-speaking nation, is located approximately 40 miles north of Venezuela and is home to several Major League players like Kenley Jansen (Dodgers), Andrelton Simmons (Angels) as well as retired 10-time Gold Glove Award-winner Andruw Jones.
This trip was scheduled through the same organization that arranged BYU’s 2011 trip during Thanksgiving to the Dominican Republic. The NCAA allows athletic teams to take a foreign tour once every four years. Previously, BYU baseball has visited Italy (1974) and Mexico (1965, 1978 and 1982).
