Postgame notes
The Cougars won their seventh game by defeating the Idaho State Bengals 59-13. BYU is now 7-3 this season, 537-391-26 all-time and 5-0 against Idaho State. The win marks the eighth consecutive winning season for BYU dating back to the 2006 season.
The 13 points mark the lowest output by an opponent since the bowl game last season when San Diego State only scored six points.
Twenty-two seniors played in their last game at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Running backs Adam Hine and Algernon Brown carried the team and special teams flags. Derik Stevenson carried the alumni flag. Stevenson played linebacker at BYU from 1995-98.
Official attendance for tonight’s game was 58,645.
Offense
The Cougars scored 59 points, the most since a 59-21 win over UNLV in 2009.
Six different players scored touchdowns in the game, the most since seven players scored against Idaho State in 2011, including five different players in the second quarter. Since 1977, BYU has never had five players score a touchdown in the same quarter.
The Cougars scored 35 points in the second quarter, the most since 2008 when BYU scored 35 against UCLA. Since 1977, BYU has only scored 35 in a quarter three times. The first instance was vs. Washington State in 1990 with 36 points in the fourth.
BYU gained 578 yards of total offense, the second-highest total this season, averaging 8.4 yards per play. The Cougars rushed for 421 yards and five scores.
The Cougars have not been shutout for 122 consecutive games dating back to 2003.
Defense
The Cougars held their opponent to just 287 offensive yards, including 128 through the air. Idaho State averages 335.6 passing yards and 419.6 overall.
The defense forced three turnovers, including an interception for a score, and recorded four sacks. It also notched 13 tackles for loss, the most in one game over the past five seasons.
BYU improves to 16-0 under Bronco Mendenhall when scoring a defensive touchdown.
Taysom Hill
The sophomore quarterback threw for two touchdowns on 11 for 19 passing. It is the fourth consecutive game he has thrown multiple TDs.
Cody Hoffman
On the first punt return of his career, senior receiver Cody Hoffman notched a 23-yard return. He finished with five returns for 49 yards. He added two catches for 27 yards to increase his receiving records at BYU.
Jamaal Williams
Running back Jamaal Williams tied a personal best with three rushing touchdowns to bring his total to six on the year. He scored his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the season in the first quarter. His second TD came on a career-high 70-yard run. The last time BYU had a player score on a 70-yard (or more) run was Mike Hague in 2006.
Kyle Van Noy
Senior linebacker Kyle Van Noy filled up the stat sheet yet again with two tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass breakup and two quarterback hurries.
Skyler Ridley
Senior receiver Skyler Ridley caught his second TD of the season on a career-high 36-yard reception from Taysom Hill in the second quarter. He ended the game with four catches and 86 receiving yards.
Richard Wilson
Senior tight end Richard Wilson caught his first pass of the season and second touchdown of his career.
Adam Hine
Sophomore running back Adam Hine scored his first career touchdown while adding a personal-best 142 yards on the ground. Hine averaged 14.1 yards per carry on 10 carries.
Algernon Brown
Freshman Algernon Brown rushed for 61 yards on eight carries, with a career-high long of 23 yards.
Bronson Kaufusi
Sophomore defensive lineman Bronson Kaufusi notched his first career interception and returned it for a touchdown, the first score of his career.
Ammon Olsen
Sophomore Ammon Olsen completed his first pass at BYU. He finished 1 for 2 with four yards.
Logan Taele
Sophomore defensive lineman Logan Taele recorded his first stats as a Cougar with two tackles, a fumble recovery two tackles for loss and a sack.
Mike Hague
Senior defensive back Mike Hague totaled a team-high seven tackles and two pass breakups, both personal bests.
Kai Nacua
True freshman safety Kai Nacua came into the game with one career tackle. Against Idaho State, he notched six tackles, including two tackles for loss, and two pass breakups.
Eathyn Manumaleuna
Senior defensive lineman Eathyn Manumaleuna recorded his second-career blocked kick, while adding a tackle for loss in his last game at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
Remington Peck
Sophomore defensive lineman recorded his third sack of the season and also added a tackle for loss.
Michael Davis
Freshman Michael Davis finished with five tackles, one tackle for loss and a pass breakup. He previously had two tackles in his career.
Trevor Bateman
Sophomore Trevor Bateman played in his first game at BYU and notched two tackles as a defensive back.
Michael Doman
Sophomore defensive lineman Michael Doman doubled his career total tackles with two on the game. He also added 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
