James Empey named to Rimington Trophy Watch List

NEW YORK – BYU center James Empey was named to the 2020 Rimington Trophy Watch List on Wednesday.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in NCAA Division I College Football.
Empey, a 6-foot-4, 303-pound junior, was a Freshman All-America selection in 2018 and also a Rimington Trophy Watch List honoree in 2019. He has started BYU's first two games, helping the Cougars average more than 600 yards against Navy and Troy. Empey has started 28 games at center.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only two-time winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
Because of COVID-19 and the ever-changing guidelines of in-person events, details of the annual presentation will be announced when confirmed.
