PROVO -- After totaling over 100 yards receiving in back-to-back games, and helping BYU to a dramatic, come-from-behind win over New Mexico on Saturday, BYU tight end Jonny Harline has been named the national John Mackey Tight End of the Week by the Nassau County Sports Commission.

Harline, a native of Orem, Utah, grabbed a career-high 10 receptions on Saturday, equaling a career-high 123 yards. A week earlier, the 6-foot-4, 226-pound tight end had seven receptions for 123 yards against San Diego State.

Harline is the first BYU tight end to record 246 yards over a two game stretch since Chris Smith totaled 284 yards over two games during the 1990 season. Smith was credited with 125 yards on eight receptions against Utah, followed by an eight-reception, 159-yard performance against Utah State the following week.

Gordon Hudson holds the tight end record for receiving yardage over a two-game stretch, posting 396 yards in two straight games during the 1981 season. He totaled 137 yards against Colorado State, followed by 259 yards against Hawaii the following week.

A transfer from Ricks JC, Harline has produced 25 receptions for a team-leading 369 yards on the season. He is the nation's third-ranked tight end, averaging 73.8 yards per game. He also ranks second nationally among tight ends with a 5.0 receptions-per-game average. Against Mountain West Conference opponents, Harline is the top-ranked tight end, averaging 108.3 yards per contest.

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week, recognizing solely on-field receiving performance, is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to highlight the play of tight ends. The Tight End of the Week acknowledgment has no formal significance on the final John Mackey Award selection process.

The Nassau County Sports Commission is responsible for the administration of the John Mackey Award and the John Mackey Award Selection Committee. The 2005 recipient of the annual award with be announced in mid-December and presented at the annual awards dinner on May 1, 2006.
