QUARTER "BECK" UPDATE

John Beck threw for a season-high 436 yards, completing 38-of-59 attempts, in the Cougars' double-overtime loss at No. 23 Boston College on Saturday. Beck also threw one touchdown completion and added a rushing touchdown in the first quarter to give BYU an early 7-0 lead. Beck's passing yardage total was the most since posting a Mountain West record 517 yards against TCU last season, and was the second-highest passing yardage total of his career. With his performance, Beck moved into fifth place on BYU's all-time passing list with 8,101 career yards, passing the likes of Steve Young (7,733) and Kevin Feterik (8,065). Having racked up 8,113 total yards over his career, Beck moved into fourth place on the Cougars' all-time total offense list, passing Kevin Feterik (7,731), John Walsh (7,736), and Robbie Bosco (8,073). With 52 touchdown completions, Beck now ranks 10th on BYU's all-time touchdown completions list. Saturday's performance marked his first 300-yard passing performance of the season and the 12th of his career.

GOOD GRIEF, CURTIS BROWN

With his 49-yard rushing performance against Boston College, running back Curtis Brown passed John Ogden (2,363) for sixth place on BYU's all-time rushing list. Brown has 2,408 career yards and needs just 563 yards to pass Jamal Willis as BYU's all-time top rusher.

OPENING DRIVE SUCCESS

For the second consecutive week, BYU scored a touchdown on its opening drive. The Cougars drive covered 66 yards on 11 plays. BYU was 2-for-2 on third downs on the drive including the touchdown play. The seven early points more than double the Cougars total from last years' match up with Boston College.

RUSHING TOUCHDOWN

John Beck scored his first rushing touchdown of the season on BYU's opening drive. The rushing touchdown was Beck's first since Oct. 22, 2005 against Notre Dame.

LONGEST FIELD GOAL

Jared McLaughlin hit a 45-yard field goal with 11:15 remaining in the second quarter. The field goal was McLaughlin's longest this season and longest since he hit a 45-yarder against UNLV last season. Five minutes later, McLaughlin hit a career-best 50-yarder. Previously, McLaughlin's career long was 47 yards against TCU last season.

INTERCEPTION-LESS STREAKS OVER

When Boston College's DeJuan Tribble picked off John Becks' pass with 1:10 remaining in the first half, it was the first Beck interception this season. It was also Beck's first interception since the 2005 Las Vegas Bowl, marking 83 consecutive pass attempts without an interception. The Cougars' Quinn Gooch returned the favor against BC's Matt Ryan just 30 seconds later. Gooch intercepted his first pass of the season. The pick was the first Ryan has thrown this year and the first he has thrown in 104 pass attempts.

FIRST QUARTER DEFENSE

BYU's defense had a good showing in the first quarter, allowing just 95 yards. If it weren't for a 79-yard reception, the Cougars' defense would have only given up 16 first-quarter yards.

FIRST HALF LEAD

The Cougars' streak of halftime leads was extended to three games. BYU went to the break with a 13-12 lead over the Eagles.

LONG DRIVE

BYU put together its longest scoring drive of the season, going 96 yards on eight plays for a touchdown to tie the game at 20 in the fourth quarter.

OVERTIME

The overtime game was the first for BYU since losing to Utah, 41-34 in 2005. The Cougars were 0-2 in overtime games in 2005. Overall, BYU is now 3-3 in overtime games. The loss was the Cougars third consecutive overtime loss.

AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS

BYU's loss marked the 12th consecutive defeat to a ranked opponent. BYU's last win against a ranked opponent was Sept. 16, 1999 when the Cougars beat Colorado State 34-13. BYU's last win against a ranked opponent on the road was Sept. 20, 1997 against Arizona State.
