Tonight’s crowd of 64,601 marks the third highest since LaVell Edwards Stadium was modified in 2003. It ranks in behind the crowd of 65,251 for the 2004 game against Notre Dame and the 64,749 in attendance for the 2007 Utah game.

The 64,601 fans in attendance for the Cougars’ 38-7 loss to TCU marked the 16th consecutive sell-out at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The current streak marks the longest streak of consecutive sellouts since the 1990-92 seasons. In three games this season BYU is averaging 64,251 fans per game. The last time the stadium was not sold out was against New Mexico on Nov. 18, 2006 when 63,814 fans were in attendance—231 short of a sellout.
MENDENHALL TEAMS VS. RANKED FOES
Under Bronco Mendenhall, BYU is now 2-7 vs. ranked foes, with its wins being a 31-17 victory over No. 15 TCU on Sept. 28, 2006 and a 14-13 win over No. 3 Oklahoma on Sept. 5, 2009.
31-POINT LOSS
Tonight’s 31-point defeat to TCU is BYU’s largest since a 52-21 loss to Utah on Nov. 20, 2004.
HOMECOMING LOSS
Tonight marked the Cougars’ first homecoming loss since a 58-13 matchup with Colorado State in 2003.
COMPETING AS A RANKED TEAM
With today’s loss the Cougars are 154-46 when nationally ranked in the Top 25. A ranked BYU team has won 23 of its last 28 games dating back to 2006.
MWC HOME WIN STREAK SNAPPED
TCU’s win tonight snaps BYU’s MWC home win streak of 13 games. The Cougars set a new league record with MWC home wins dating back to 2006.
UNGA PUTS UP POINTS
Junior Harvey Unga scored BYU’s first touchdown of tonight’s game off a 3-yard reception from quarterback Max Hall to cut the TCU lead to 21-7. Unga has accounted for the Cougars’ first touchdown in five games this season.
UNGA REACHES CENTURY MARK
Unga recorded 100-plus yards rushing for the fourth time this season, totaling 123 yards on the night. The junior now has 14 100-yard rushing games over his BYU career.
FLAG BEARER
BYU has a tradition of selecting a player before each game to run the team flag onto the field, as well as a former Cougar to carry out the alumni flag. Each member of the team has signed the team flag, while former BYU players have signed the alumni flag. Their signatures reflect their commitment to uphold the tradition, spirit and honor of the BYU football program and to be a flag bearer of the University.
As part of the 25-year anniversary celebration of BYU’s national championship, each alumni chosen to carry out the flag this year will be a member of the 1984 team. Carrying the team flag today was senior quarterback Brenden Gaskins with former BYU wide receiver Kelly Smith carrying the alumni flag. Smith played for the Cougars from 1980-85 and caught the game-winning touchdown for BYU in the 1984 Holiday Bowl, helping maintain the team’s undefeated national championship season.
COIN TOSS
Today BYU won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half—for the sixth time this season. BYU is now 4-2 when winning the toss.
CONSECUTIVE CATCHES
All-American tight end Dennis Pitta caught his first pass of the game with 12:49 remaining in the second quarter for a 22-yard gain. The senior has caught a pass in 38 consecutive games dating back to Oct. 23, 2004 (at Air Force), prior to his mission.
EXTENDING TIGHT END RECORDS
Since becoming BYU’s all-time leading tight end in yards and receptions earlier this season, senior Dennis Pitta continues to extend those records. As a Cougar, Pitta has racked up 2,605 receiving yards and 197 career catches.
Those receptions keep him into third place in the BYU record books for receivers overall, behind Austin Collie (215) and Matt Bellini (204).
HE WHO SCORES FIRST...
TCU was the first to score today on a 4-yard run by Justin Turner with 6:16 remaining in the first quarter. BYU opponents have been the first to score in four games this season, the others being Oklahoma, Florida State and Utah State. The Cougars are 2-2 in those four games.
CONSECUTIVE STARTS
Today marked senior defensive lineman Jan Jorgensen’s 47th straight career start. During that streak, Jorgensen has started every game of his collegiate career and set a new MWC all-time career sack record at 24.5. His first career start came against Arizona on Sept. 2, 2006.
SCORING HALL PASSES
Quarterback Max Hall recorded one touchdown pass against TCU today, giving him 17 on the year. Those 17 touchdown passes have been to nine different members of the BYU receiving corp. Hall has now thrown a touchdown pass in 31-of-34 career games.
PAPER OR PLASTIC?
Defensive lineman Brett Denney picked up his second sack of the season with less than 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter, dropping TCU quarterback Andy Dalton for a 12-yard loss. Linebacker Colebly Clawson’s sack on the Frogs’ first drive of the second half set up third-and-15 and marked the senior’s fourth sack on the year.
Collectively the Cougars have recorded 15 sacks in their first eight games this season.
