FOUR SCORE AND 17 YEARS
With three more rushing touchdowns today and a receiving touchdown, 17-year old running back Jamaal Williams was the first Cougar to score four touchdowns in a game since wide receiver Luke Ashworth scored four against Colorado State in 2010. His eight rushing touchdowns lead the team and are third most among FBS freshman running backs.
CENTURY MARK
Williams finished the day with 28 carries, 107 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also added three receptions for 54 yards, including a career-best 39-yard reception on a shovel pass turned into a race down the sideline for another score.
DEFENSE WINS
In game matching a potent offense vs. a strong defense something had to give. The Yellow Jackets came into the game averaging just under 500 yards of total offense per game (339.6 rushing and 161.7 passing) and scoring 37.7 points per game. The Ramblin’ Wreck were held to a season low 157 total yards. BYU also held them to season lows in rushing yards (117) passing yards (40) and tied for season low in points (17). Georgia Tech had topped 300 rushing yards four times this year and 400 rushing yards twice.
HOFFMAN KEEPS IT GOING
Wide receiver Cody Hoffman kept his streak alive, now catching at least one pass in 28 straight games and 34 of 35 career games. Hoffman finished the game with seven receptions for 69 yards. With 159 career receptions, he passed Curtis Brown for No. 9 in school history.
SCORING MORE POINTS
With 24 points in the first half, BYU tied its season high for points in the first half. The Cougars scored 24 against Washington State in the season opener. BYU topped 40 points in a game for the third time this season.
ALL-PURPOSE JD
JD Falslev did it all today, returning kicks and punts as well as catching passes and rushing the ball. Falslev set a career high with 182 all-purpose yards. He had 32 rushing yards, 12 receiving yards, 9 punt return yards and career-best 129 kick return yards.
ONE OF EVERYTHING ALMOST . . . AGAIN
Linebacker Kyle Van Noy blocked a Georgia Tech punt to set up a BYU score. He now only needs a fumble recovery to duplicate his 2011 feat of recording a stat in every major defensive category. He also had one tackle for loss.
RUNNING OUT THE FLAG
Sophomore running back Iona Pritchard led BYU out of the tunnel carrying the team flag today. Senior running back Zed Mendenhall also ran out the special teams flag. Former Cougar Nathan Gibbs (OL, 1989, 91-94) carried the alumni flag.
