PORTSMOUTH, Va. – BYU’s Brandon Davies has been invited to participate in the 2013 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, the nation’s oldest amateur basketball tournament and the only postseason camp conducted for the top seniors in college basketball.
This marks the 61st year for Portsmouth Invitational, which annually invites 64 of the best senior college basketball players from across the nation to participate in a four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team and numerous international leagues.
A 6-foot-9 forward from Provo, Utah, Davies was BYU’s second-leading scorer (17.7) in 2012-13 while leading the Cougars in rebounding (8.0), field goal percentage (.522) and blocks (35). As a team captain this season, he helped BYU to 24 wins and a trip to the National Invitational Tournament semifinals in Madison Square Garden in New York. Davies was named All-West Coast Conference and earned USBWA (first team) and NABC (second team) all-district honors.
One of the top big men in program history, Davies concluded his collegiate career among BYU’s top 10 in career games played (3rd), wins played in (T3rd), rebounds (5th), blocks (5th), steals (8th) and points (10th). He was a three-time WCC Player of the Week, All-WCC in 2012 and 2013 and a three-year starter.
Davies will play for K&D Round’s Landscaping for coaches Jim Markey, Patrick Dulin and NBA great Scottie Pippen. His teammates will be Mouphtaou Yarou (Villanova), D.J. Seeley (Cal State Fullerton), Ian Clark (Belmont), Keith Clanton (Central Florida), Elijah Johnson (Kansas), Ryan Broekhoff (Valparaiso) and Mark Lyons (Arizona).
K&D Rounds will play Norfolk Sports Club in the tournament’s opening game on Wednesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. EDT. Statistics will be available after the game. The tournament will continue through Saturday, April 13.
