COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has named BYU sophomore guard Nick Emery as a 2017 All-American Athlete of the Year Award recipient. This award recognizes Emery’s athletic accomplishments and his dedication to strength and conditioning.

Nominated by BYU men’s basketball strength coach Erick Schork, Emery helped BYU to a 22-12 record and an at-large bid to the NIT. A team captain, Emery averaged 13.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a team-best 1.6 steals per game. The Alpine, Utah, native also hit 75 3-pointers and shot 82.9 percent from the free-throw line. Emery set the BYU record for consecutive games with a 3-point field goal this season at 32 and is sixth all-time in career 3-point field goals at BYU with 172.

“Nick’s strong work ethic has proven to be a catalyst for much of the team’s success,” Schork said. “His teammates respect his level of commitment and sacrifice toward his goals. Nick has been able to transfer his work in the offseason to the court. He set the school record for consecutive games with at least one 3-point field goal and has also become stronger on the defensive side of the ball, leading the team in steals. Nick has proven himself an exemplary ambassador for Brigham Young University.”

NSCA member coaches may nominate one male and/or one female strength and conditioning athlete, per sport, per school.

The NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athletes of the Year program recognizes those collegiate and high school athletes, whose athletic accomplishments, in the opinion of their strength coach, reflect their dedication to strength training and conditioning.
