BYU head coach Dave Rose

“Loyola played a great game against us. I thought they defended us really well, contested almost every pass and every shot. They, defensively, had a really good game plan and made it really hard for us to get the ball in the post. In the post they didn’t bring over a second or third defender, which is something we haven’t seen in the last few games, and they stayed on our shooters. Our guys fought through it and had a chance in the second half, with cutting it to four, but it seemed like every time we had a run or a chance they made a big play. They deserved to win. Congratulations to their staff and game plan.”

On shooting 2 of 25 from three
“We didn’t get a lot of good ones. We got some good ones that we just missed but, for the most part, they contested every shot and we were impatient. I think we looked too quick instead of reversing the ball to the other side. We need to shoot better than that to win but, in hindsight, there are other ways you can get a win and we didn’t do those tonight either.”

“They did a good job on defense, really spread us out, and made us take tough shots tonight. Hey were very active as a team on the defensive end and kept us from making the shots we wanted.”

“It’s not a surprise really. Everyone wants to beat us because of who we are and we have to prepare for that mentally. We have to come prepared to play. They outplayed us tonight.”

Loyola Marymount head coach Max Goode
“BYU has a great program. They are a great addition to our league. I’m glad they’re in our league. Dave Rose is one of the good guys in the business and not everybody is. We’re proud of this because it took a great effort and we had to play with a lot of poise to beat a great team on their home court. We lead the league in 3-point percentage defense for whatever that’s worth. I’m just glad this one is over and in the books.”

“You better have a great plan and a lot of luck and hope they are missing because they’re terrific…We did a good job of keeping the crowd out of the game.”

On Anthony Ireland
“He’s talented and tough. Talent without toughness is useless.”
