Cougars tie for 1st at Desert Shootout

GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Justin Keiley and Jordan Hammer led BYU men's golf to tie for first place at the Desert Shootout on Saturday.

"It was a good day for us," BYU golf coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We hung in there and I was impressed with how the guys handled it today. When they had a chance to get it done, they did a good job. Tying for first place is always awesome."

After a sixth place standing following the first round, the Cougars improved to first place with Kansas City for a total score of 833 each. Kansas City beat BYU in a one-hole playoff to take home the top team honors.

Idaho and Fullerton trailed by one and two strokes, respectively. 

Keiley tied for sixth place with a team low of 67 in the final round, while Hammer trailed by one stroke to tie in eighth place. 

Joe Parkinson tied in 19th place for a total score of 211 and Cole Ogden tied in 29th place with a third round score of 68. Jordan Rodgers tied in 36th place for a third round score of 68 and a total score of 215. 

The Cougars finished the tournament with a total of two eagles and a tournament-high 72 birdies. 

BYU returns to action on April 7-8 in Scottsdale, Ariz. for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic.
