NORMAN, Okla. — BYU men’s golfer Carson Lundell was named to the 2022 PING Honorable Mention All-American Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The junior from Alpine, Utah, was named honorable mention All-America for the second-straight year after leading BYU in individual wins, scoring average, top-25, top-10 and top-5 finishes. He also helped the Cougars earn a spot in the 30-team field at the 2022 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
“Carson continues to solidify his place as one of the top amateur and collegiate golfers in the world,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “In the last two years he has finished in the top-25 in 20-of-25 events and has won three times. His consistency is a testament to the strength of every aspect of his game and we are extremely excited that he is returning for one more year to help our team make another trip to the NCAA Championships.”
During the 2021-22 campaign Lundell played in all 14 events for the Cougars while recording to victories, 11 top-25 finishes, seven top-10s and three top-5s. He earned medalist honors and defended his 2021 title at the 2022 PING Cougar Classic, won the NCAA Stockton Regional with three-straight sub-70 rounds and finished runner-up at the prestigious 75th Western Intercollegiate for a second-straight season.
“There are a lot of great players around the country and for him to be honored as an All-American in back-to-back seasons is quite the accomplishment,” said BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank. “As great of a year as Carson had, his expectations for himself are much higher. He wants to be a First Team All-American and he is very capable of achieving that goal. With his work ethic, I believe that he will reach or exceed his expectations in his senior season.
Lundell has been a consistent contributor for the Cougars since he stepped on campus in 2018. He has competed in three NCAA regionals, led the Cougars to seven team wins and two trips to the NCAA Championships.
Lundell plans to return to BYU for his senior season of golf in 2022-23 and to complete his communications degree.
