PROVO, Utah — BYU men’s golf travels to New Mexico in hopes of defending its 2021 title at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, Sept. 23-24.

“As always New Mexico will play host to a great field at the Tucker Intercollegiate this week,” said BYU director of golf Todd Miller. “We were disappointed with our finish at Olympic Club last week, but our team has be working hard to iron out the issues that kept us from winning and I feel confident the guys are ready to shoot some low scores this weekend.”

Carson Lundell, Tyson Shelley, David Timmins, Zac Jones and Keanu Akina will tee it up for the Cougar team that is determined to continue their success at the UNM Championship Course. Elijah Turner will also compete at the Tucker as an individual.

“We've had plenty of success at this event over the past five years,” said Miller. “All six guys have experience at the UNM Championship Course and feel comfortable with the elevation and the type of grass which I hope will help us put ourselves in contention on Saturday afternoon.”

BYU has competed in the Tucker Intercollegiate every year since 2017, excluding the 2020 season when the tournament was not held due to COVID-19. In the last four trips to Albuquerque, the Cougars have returned to Provo with team titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021 with a runner-up finish in 2019. BYU graduate Peter Kuest, who played on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022, earned back-to-back individual titles in 2018 and 2019 on the Lobos’ home course.

The Cougars will join host New Mexico, Colorado, Denver, Hawai’I, LMU, Nebraska, New Mexico State, North Texas, Northern Illinois, San Francisco, San Diego, San Diego State, TCU, UNLV, Utah Tech, UTEP, UTSA, Wyoming and individuals from Texas in the 54-hole championship.

The 7,546-yard, UNM Championship Course will play host to the event which will consist of 36 holes on Friday with the final 18 holes on Saturday.

Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com as well as updates on the BYU men’s golf Instagram and twitter accounts.
