BYU wins its fifth tournament of the season

Santa Barbara, Calif.--Senior Captain Andy Miller's clutch birdie on the final hole gave BYU a one-stroke victory over San Diego at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate golf tournament earning seventh-ranked BYU their fifth tournament victory of the season.

"Andy won it for us," BYU Head Coach Bruce Brockbank said. "Anytime you need something from this guy, he shows up and gets it done. We needed a birdie that last whole and he knew and he got it.

On Miller's last hole, he sank a 10-foot putt after driving 405 yard straight into 20-30 mile-per-hour winds to seal the victory for the Cougars.

BYU was also led by Todd Miller who finished fifth after shooting even par in the last round on a very challenging course, La Purisma in Santa Barbara, California. Brockbank called La Purisma, with its hilly greens the toughest, course the Cougars have played on this season.

"This is a very tough course to play on and I think our guys were getting a little frustrated at times, but they hung in there and handled the challenge very well," Brockbank said. "We were very fortunate to win."

BYU will next play in the Morris Williams Invitational in Austin, Texas on March 20-21.
