Sproul and Tuitama Claim MPSF Honors

PROVO, Utah - BYU freshmen swimmers Brynn Sproul and Tama Tuitama swept the MPSF/TYR Athlete of the Week awards after their outstanding performances at the Intermountain Shootout.

Sproul won the 100 back with a time of 55.95 and 200 back in 2:00.93 (altitude converted 1:59.73) in her collegiate debut, helping BYU defeat Colorado State and Colorado Mesa. The Las Vegas native also swam on the third-place 400 free relay (3:36.33), fourth-place 200 free relay (1:39.85) and 200 medley relay (1:47.78), and took fifth individually in the 200 free (1:57.04).

Tuitama won the 400 IM (4:04.07), 200 IM (1:53.34), 200 back (1:52.58) and swam for the first-place 200 free relay (1:24.65) in his first career meet in helping the Cougars defeat Air Force and Colorado Mesa at the Shootout. The Las Vegas native added a fourth-place swim in the 200 breast (2:09.06) and fifth-place in the 100 back (52:85).

The Cougar men will next face Colorado Mesa on Friday at home in the Richard Building Pool. The BYU women and men will then travel to the Liberty Invite in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Oct. 26-27.
