FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — BYU divers competed this week at the Zone E Diving Championships from March 7-9, with senior Kennedy Cribbs double-qualifying for the NCAA Championships later this month.
Cribbs took eighth out of 61 divers in the preliminary round of the women’s 1m event on Monday, recording a score of 278.80 to push her through to finals. She then took sixth in the competition later that evening, earning a score of 566.05 to secure a ticket to the NCAA Championships.
Cribbs took 16th in Tuesday’s 3m prelim event with a 278.75 before taking 17th in the finals with a 569.20. On Wednesday, she placed 14th in the women’s platform prelims with a 225.45. She took 10th in platform finals with a 476.15, qualifying to compete in the platform event at NCAAs as well.
Mickey Strauss also had notable performances in Arizona. He started out the meet taking fifth in the men’s 3m event with a 350.75, before moving on to take seventh in finals with a score of 693.00. Strauss then took ninth in the preliminary round of the men’s platform competition with a 276.70, then improved to take eighth in the finals with a 593.95.
Cribbs will be the only diver from BYU to compete at the NCAA Championships from March 16-19 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She will compete against 41 other divers at the meet, which will be broadcast on ESPN3.
