Cougars Host Utes, Friday 2 p.m.

PROVO, Utah - The BYU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will host in-state rival Utah on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Richards Building Pool. The meet was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. but was moved up due to the Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics in Salt Lake City.

The men's team is currently 6-1 in dual meet action after defeating Wyoming on January 2, 161-82. The Cougars swam against the Utes earlier this season in November and won decisively 152-91 in Salt Lake City.

"Utah is a very improved team from last year and even from earlier this season," said men's head swim coach Tim Powers. "They are very strong in distance, breaststroke, and fly which are our weaknesses. I expect us to be ready to swim."

The women's squad is riding a four-meet winning streak after defeating Wyoming 131-112, on January 26. The women opened up the season at Utah in November and won a close on 124-117.

"It's going to be a screamer," said women's head swim coach Stan Crump. "They are a tough match up for us. We'll do our best to beat them, but expect a close meet."

The seniors from both the teams will be honored at the beginning of the meet as part of the opening events.
