Full Teams Travel to Weber State
PROVO -- For the first time this season, the BYU men's and women's track teams will send a majority of their athletes to a single meet. The two teams will compete in the Weber State Collegiate Invitational, to be held Saturday at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah. The Cougars will also send a few athletes to Tempe, Arizona to compete in the Sun Angel Track Classic.
The Ogden meet features a combination of Big Sky and Mountain West Conference teams, with Boise State, BYU, Colorado State, Idaho State, Montana State, Utah, Utah State and Utah Valley State College scheduled to compete.
"This will be the best field we have had for an outdoor track and field meet here since the 1998 Big Sky Conferencemeet," said Weber State men's coach Chick Hislop. "BYU brings a national caliber team, both men and women, as does Colorado State."
In the men's competition, BYU's Jim Roberts and Utah State's James Parker will be the top contender in the throwing events. Roberts holds the third best mark in the country in the shot put, and Parker is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the hammer throw. In addition, CSU's eight-time All-American Bryan Berryhill is entered in the 800 meters, and Weber State's Charles Clingler, the 2001 NCAA Indoor high jump champion, is scheduled to compete Saturday.
On the women's side, BYU senior All-American Jeana Bingham enters this weekend's meet with the second best high jump mark in the country. The 3,000-meter steeplechase will be run for the first time even on the Child Track surface.
