BYU Hosts First Home Meet of the Season

PROVO -- The BYU men's and women's track teams will compete on their home track for the first time this year as they host the BYU Invitational Saturday. In addition to the home meet, the Cougars will send a handful of athletes to Austin, Texas to compete in the Texas Relays.

The Provo meet will feature mostly in-state teams, as athletes from Utah State, Southern Utah, Weber State, UVSC and Ricks College are scheduled to compete. The Mountain West Track Club, based in Missoula, Mont., will also send several runners to the meet, including Vicky Lynch-Pounds. The 1999 Canadian National Champion in the 800 meters, Pounds ran a personal best of 2:02.0 at the 1998 Prefontaine Classic. BYU's Jeana Bingham is also scheduled to compete in the home meet. Bingham currently holds the No. 2 mark in the nation in the high jump, having cleared 6'00.75" (1.85m) earlier this year.

The University of Texas will host the 74th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by Motorola, at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The four-day meet will feature more than 5,000 high school, collegiate and professional athletes competing in 120 events. BYU All-American Curtis Pugsley, who finished 6th at last year's NCAA meet, will compete in his first decathlon of the season. All-Americans Kenneth Andam and Thobias Akwenye are scheduled to compete in the 100 meters.

Complete results from the meet can be found at the official web site of the Texas Relays,
