No. 3 BYU travels to undefeated No. 2 Long Beach State

PROVO, Utah – No. 3 BYU men’s volleyball travels to No. 2 Long Beach State this week for a pair of conference matches on Friday and Saturday.

Last Time Out

The Cougars split a pair of five-set matches at home against then-No. 11 Stanford over the weekend. Ben Patch led the team with a combined 45 kills between the two nights.

No. 2 Long Beach State

  • The 49ers began league play at home with four-set wins against Cal Baptist and Southern California. They have also defeated Lindenwood, Sacred Heart and Quincy to start 5-0 – their best five-match start since the 2008 season.
  • Long Beach State was picked to finish fourth in the MPSF preseason coaches’ poll, just behind BYU (1st), UC Irvine (2nd) and UCLA (3rd).
  • The Cougars lead the overall series between the two schools 29-21. BYU won both matches against the 49ers at home last year, first in a sweep and then a four-set win.
  • Long Beach State is coached by Alan Knipe who is in his 13th season. Knipe holds a 9-21 record against BYU.
