Seven Cougars receive MPSF All-Academic honors

PROVO, Utah – Seven Cougars received 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic honors, MPSF Director Al Beaird announced Wednesday.

Leo Durkin, Michael Hatch, Price Jarman, Jake Langlois, Ben Patch, Erik Sikes and Robbie Sutton all received accolades for BYU.

To be nominated for the award, student-athletes must be nominated by their institutions based on the following criteria:

1. 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average.

2. Student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically.

3. Student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the award is received.

4. Student-athlete must have competed in 50 percent or more of the institution’s competition in his or her respective sport.

5. Ben Patch, 3.13, So., OPP, Provo, Utah/Provo HS

6. Erik Sikes, 3.26, So., L, Laguna Niguel, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic

7. Robbie Sutton, 3.29, Sr., S, San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo HS

BYU and UC San Diego tied for the most players to collect academic league honors with seven. Stanford was next with six student-athletes, followed by USC and Cal Baptist with five apiece.

In 2016, the Cougars won the outright regular season and tournament titles before advancing to the national championship match of the NCAA tournament.
