PROVO, Utah - BYU senior softball player Stacie Toney was named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team for her efforts as an all-around student-athlete.

Toney is an elementary education major with a 3.77 GPA and was one of four infielders named to the District 8 Team which comprises schools from eight western states and Canda. Playing second base for the majority of the season, Toney is the only Utah native to be named Academic All-Region from any division in any region.

The senior from Farmington, Utah, is ranked in the top-10 in multiple Western Athletic Conference categories, including fourth in runs batted in, sixth in batting average and slugging percentage and ninth in hits. Toney currently has a .366 batting average, 48 hits, 33 runs, nine doubles, six home runs and 35 RBI on the year.

Toney's honor marks the sixth-straight year a BYU player has been named Academic All-Region, following Jennifer Whiteley (2007), Christina Gwyn Trice (2008) and Paige Affleck (2009, 2010, 2011).

Toney will join other first-team honorees advancing to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot where first-, second- and third-teams will be announced later this month.
