Shayla Gillmer
Aliso Viejo, California
Ontario Christian HS
6-1, F

Gillmer recently transferred to Ontario Christian after playing at Aliso Niguel High School. Gillmer averaged 16.2 points per game, 13.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks per game as a junior, earning All-CIF Division I honors.

As a sophomore, Gillmer posted 14.9 points per game and added 4.9 rebounds.

“Shayla is really athletic. She can get to the basket and she has a good outside shot. Shayla is a very aggressive rebounder and can really run the floor. We want a three or four that can really spread the floor in our offense and hit shots and drive it. Shayla is athletic and she can really jump. We are really excited and had to beat out a lot of teams to get her as she had lot of schools recruiting her.”

Alyssa Blanck
Salt Lake City, Utah
Olympus HS
6-2, G/F

Blanck also averaged a double-double last season with 18.1 points per game and 11.1 rebounds, leading Olympus to the semifinals of the state tournament. She added 2.6 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.4 blocks per game.

She is a three-time Deseret News All-State selection, earning first team honors the last two seasons after a third-team selection as a freshman.

“Alyssa is a great shooter, great passer and can really shoot the 3-pointer. She can also play the three or the four for us depending on who we are going against. Alyssa is a very smart player and understands the game, playing on a very good high school team here in Utah at Olympus. We know her and her coach really well. We are expecting her to come in and learn, grow, get stronger and quicker and she is going to be a very positive thing for our program.”

BYU opened the season this week against Lipscomb with an 81-58 victory and hosts Fresno State on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Marriott Center.
