PROVO, Utah – Alexandra White was named West Coast Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Month for March, and Maria Yacaman was named to the WCC Women’s All-Academic Team, the league announced Monday.

This is the first monthly honor for White, the second for BYU this season. Lea Garner won WCC Women’s Golf Player of the Month for October.

White recently suffered a neck injury that prevented her from participating in fall play. Though she still has quite a bit of neck and back pain, White returned to the field in February and is playing extremely well.

March has been the biggest month of White’s golfing career. On March 16-17, she shot four-under par at the BYU-hosted Entrada Classic to not only win the tournament, but also set a decade-long tournament record. She birdied holes 15, 17 and 18 in round three to come back from second place and win by two.

At the Bay Area Intercollegiate from March 9-10, she tied for 41st place, shooting 13-over-par. Later in the month on March 20-21 at the Mountain View Collegiate, she tied for 20th place. She shot 70 in the first round, shooting one-over-par overall.

Yacaman earned a first team spot for the second-straight year. She had the highest GPA of a women’s golf student-athlete in 2014-15 with a 3.98 in information systems. This season, she has finished in the top 20 in four tournaments.

Annie Yang and Carly Oldroyd received honorable mentions on the All-Academic Team. Yang has a 3.69 in communications, while Oldroyd has a 3.4 in business. A list of the players receiving honors can be found at the WCC's golf page.
