SACRAMENTO, Calif. — BYU women’s golf finished runner-up at the lightning and rain-shortened Causeway Invitational on Tuesday.

“We are disappointed that the championship was cut short by so many delays,” said BYU head Coach Carrie Roberts. “However, I’m encouraged by our girls' ability to post good scores despite the extremely difficult conditions.”

The Causeway Invitational, which originally was slated as a 54-hole event, was shortened to 18 holes because of significant rain and lightning delays at Del Paso Country Club.

Washington took home the team championship after shooting a 4-over 292 in the first round. BYU earned a second-place finish with a 4-over 295, with Cal finishing third at 8-over (296). Sacramento State shot 9-over 297, with San Diego State rounding out the top-5 at 13-over-par (301).

Allysha Mae Mateo earned her fourth straight top-6 finish as she took fifth after an even-par 72. Alexa Udom finished in 13th after shooting 2-over 74 to take home her second top-25 finish of the season. Sunbin Seo finished tied with Udom at 2-over to notch the first top-15 finish of her collegiate career.

Annick Haczkiewicz and Kerstin Ngakuru finished in a tie for 22nd after posting matching scores of 3-over 75. Ngakuru earned her third top-25 of the season while Haczkiewicz took home the first top-25 of her 2022-23 campaign.

The Cougars will be back in action March 6-7 as they travel to Fairfax, California, for the Juli Inkster Meadow Club Invitational.
