PROVO, Utah – Sophomore forward Nadia Gomes was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year and junior goalkeeper Rachel Boaz was named WCC Goalkeeper of the Year on Tuesday as seven total Cougars earned All-WCC honors.
Junior midfielder Elena Medeiros and junior midfielder Michele Murphy Vasconcelos were named to the All-WCC First Team along with Gomes, while Boaz and sophomore midfielder Bizzy Phillips were on the second team.
Gomes led the conference with nine goals on the season, including seven in WCC play. She also made two assists and has 21 points on the year. Gomes scored two goals in each of the final two games of the season. Gomes was also named WCC Player of the Week for her efforts against Pepperdine and LMU the final week in October.
Gomes is the second straight Cougar to be named WCC Player of the Year after Ashley Hatch won it last year as a sophomore.
Boaz is having an historic season in goal for the Cougars. If the season ended today she would hold the BYU record for goals against average and save percentage. She has recorded 72 saves on the season and 13 combined shutouts.
Medeiros scored seven goals this season as she helped drive the BYU attack from her attacking midfield spot. She is currently tied for 20th in goals scored in BYU history and is one assist shy of becoming the 21st player in BYU history with 10 goals and 10 assists in her career. Medeiros also earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention last week.
Vasconcelos has a well-rounded three goals and three assists on the year and since the start of WCC play moved from forward to midfielder to help augment the Cougar attack. Vasconcelos is 15th in career goals and 14th in career assists in BYU history. She also earned WCC All-Academic honorable mention last week.
Phillips has played all but 25 minutes this season at holding midfielder. She has a goal and two assists, but has created many goal-scoring opportunities with her long-range free kicks and midfield play. Phillips was also named to the WCC All-Academic team last week.
Siddoway played in 19 games for BYU, starting in 11. She finished the season with one goal scored from her central midfield spot.
