BYU set to host Marquette on Thursday at South Field

PROVO, Utah — No. 14 BYU women's soccer will host Marquette this week on Thursday, Sept. 2 at South Field.

Thursday’s matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT on the BYUtv.org and the BYUtv app. The game will also be carried live on the BYU Sports Network — BYU Radio 107.9 FM/BYU Cougars App.

IN THE RANKINGS. BYU is ranked No. 14 in the NCAA DI women's soccer poll. Additionally, BYU is ranked No. 12 in the Top Drawer Soccer college soccer national ranking.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. On Monday, the Cougars fell to Arkansas 2-0 at Razorback Field in front of a crowd of 2,370 fans for the Razorbacks’ home opener. Cameron Tucker appeared in her first match of the regular season and played 37 minutes off the bench.

WCC WEEKLY AWARDS. Brecken Mozingo was named the West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and Cassidy Smith was named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. These awards mark the first WCC weekly honors collected by BYU for the 2021 season and first-ever individual career honors for both Mozingo and Smith.

THE GOLDEN EAGLES. Marquette is 1-1-0 on the season following a strong showing in its home-opener against Central Michigan, netting four goals. On the road, Marquette fell to Notre Dame 1-0. The Golden Eagles' home opener was originally scheduled against Wisconsin-Green Bay, but it got cancelled, so they only have two games under their belt so far this season. The Golden Eagles finished the 2020-21 season with a 6-4 record, and they haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 2016.

COUGARS VS. GOLDEN EAGLES. Overall, the Cougars and Golden Eagles have met five times (BYU is 2-2-1). In the most recent matchup, the Cougars shut out the Golden Eagles 3-0 in 2018 at Valley Fields. Senior Makaylie Moore and current volunteer assistant coach Madie Gates each scored for BYU during the match.
