BYU to host Utah State on Saturday night at South Field

PROVO, Utah — No. 18 BYU women's soccer will host Utah State this week on Saturday, Sept. 18 at South Field.

Saturday’s matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT on byutv.org and the BYUtv app. The game will also be carried live on the BYU Sports Network — BYU Radio 107.9 FM/BYU Cougars App.

IN THE RANKINGS. BYU is currently ranked No. 18 in the NCAA DI women's soccer poll. Additionally, BYU is ranked No. 18 in the Top Drawer Soccer college soccer national ranking.

LAST TIME ON THE FIELD. On Thursday, the Cougars scored seven goals for the third-consecutive time on South Field this season, and shut out the Bengals of Idaho State 7-0 (goals by Mikayla Colohan, Cameron Tucker, Bella Folino, Brecken Mozingo and Ashton Johnson). All-American Mikayla Colohan earned the first hat trick of her BYU career and moved up to fifth place on the all-time goal list for BYU. Junior Ashton Johnson scored her first goal of the season, and 10th career goal.

THE AGGIES. The Aggies are 6-1-1 on the season and were on a record-setting 12-match winning streak until they lost to Utah 2-1 on Thursday, Sept. 16. Earlier in the season, the Aggies were victorious 2-1 over Marquette in double-overtime, after Senior forward Sammie Murdock scored the game-winner in the 105th minute. Both Utah and Marquette are common opponents with the Cougars this season. BYU defeated Marquette 7-0 and drew 0-0 with Utah, despite dominating time of possession. The Aggies are led by newly-appointed head coach Manny Martins who joined the Utah State staff in May of 2021. Previously, Martins coached for seven years at the University of Oregon, as well as time with the United States' women's national team.

COUGARS VS. AGGIES. Overall, the Cougars and Aggies have met 13 times and BYU has never lost. Ten times out of 13, the Aggies have gone scoreless against the Cougars. The two teams haven't met since 2016 when BYU was ranked No. 6 and won 3-1 in Logan. The largest margin of victory took place in 1996 when the Cougars defeated the Aggies 6-0 on South Field.
