Portland On The Road And San Diego At Home Highlight BYU's Women's Soccer Schedule This Week
Last week's two home wins helped BYU's women's soccer team extend its record to 4-1-0 on the year. This week it's a homecoming for two members of the Cougar team. Coach Rockwood and Donna Werts are both from Lake Oswego, Oregon, just a few miles away from Portland where the team is slated to meet the Pilots for the first time, Tuesday, Sept. 12. The BYU women then return home for a Friday night, Sept. 15 game against San Diego. Kick off for that game is set for 7:00 p.m.
Cougars Are Picked To Repeat as MWC Champions
BYU was selected as the favorite to capture its second straight conference title in a vote by the league's coaches.

BYU vs San Diego Game on Local and National Television
The Cougars vs San Diego women's soccer game on Friday, Sept. 15 will air live, at 7:00 p.m. on KBYU-TV and on BYU-TV for those who own a Dish Network 500 Model. Kathy Aiken will call the action forom South Field with color commentary from Kim Free.

• Record: 4-1-0
• Opened home season with 7-1 win over Weber State
• First Road trip - compiled a 1-1 record with a disappointing 1-0 loss to Washington, rebounding in a 4-2 victory over Montana
• Senior Michelle Jensen Peterson leads the team in scoring with six goals and three assists for her 15 points. Peterson was named MWC Player of the Week on Sept. 5. In the Creighton win on September 6, she tallied the first hat trick of the year for her and the team.
• Freshman All-America Aleisha Cramer tallied her first collegiate goal for the Cougars, a minute and a half into the Weber State game. In that game, she picked up two goals and an assist.
• Sophomore goalie Kylee Dickson got her first start of the year against Washington State on September 4. She was credited with her first shutout of the season as well in the 3-0 BYU home victory.

BYU vs Portland Notes
This will be the first meeting between the Cougars and the Pilots. Portland is currently 5-0 on the year with their last three wins at home. The Pilots average 24.0 shots on goal and four goals a game. Kylee Barton is the leading scorer for Portland with four goals and two assists for her 10 points. Cheryl Loveless is the Pilots goalkeeper.
Loveless and the Portland defense have compiled five shutouts to date.

Tuesday's game will be played at the Harry A. Merlo Field on the Portland campus.
BYU vs San Diego Notes
San Diego is the second team from the West Coast Conference that the Cougars will be playing this season. The Toreros return 13 letterwinners from last year's 16-5, 5-2 record. They will be making their first trip to Provo and South Field this weekend. San Diego is currently 6-0 on the season with its most recent win, a 2-0 shutout over CS Northridge. The Toreros average 18.8 shots on goal, 3.3 goals and 2.6 assists per game. Opponents are picking up 9.2 shots and 0.7 goals per game. Stephanie Barnier, a 5-11 junior leads her team in scoring with 14 points from seven goals. She's followed by sophomore forward Val Strocco with four goals and two assists for her 10 points to date.
Series Against San Diego
Record: 1-1. The last time the two teams met was during the 1997 season at a neutral site with the Cougars picking up the 3-0 victory.
Coach Jennifer Rockwood Quotes
(On the Cougars) We are playing well together right now and that's certainly a plus for us. Our bench players got some good playing time this past week and it's always good to get them that kind of experience early on in the season. as it will help the rest of the year.
(On Portland and San Diego) The two games this week are going to be tough for us. Both schools have strong women's soccer programs and play in the very strong and competitive West Coast Conference. Tuesday's game will be our first meeting against Portland and I know how tough it is to play them on their home field. We just need to come out ready to play for the entire game and play our best soccer in order for us to pick up the wins.San Diego comes to Provo on Friday, and they'll come ready to give us a very good game on our home field. I know how much our team enjoys playing in front of our fans.
The Rockwood File
Jennifer Rockwood begins her sixth season at the helm of BYU's women's soccer program. In the five year history of the Division I program, she has guided her team to two conference championships and three straight appearances in the NCAA Championships beginning with the 1997 season. The Cougars highest finish in the NCAA tourney came in 1998 when BYU finished in the "Sweet Sixteen." Her many honors include being named Coach of the Year by the Western Athletic Conference and by Soccer Buzz in 1996.
Prior to becoming the head coach, Rockwood led BYU's highly successful club soccer team, for seven years and compiled a 128-25-9 record. In her final two years, she took her teams to first place in the Western National Collegiate Club Soccer Association (NCCSA) championships and to second place in the NCCSA national championships.
A native of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Rockwood was a three-sport athlete and was awarded all-league and all-state honors in soccer, basketball, and track. During her high school and collegiate years, she competed in the Olympic Development Program in both Oregon and Utah. Rockwood attended Ricks College on an academic and basketball scholarship for one year and then transferred to BYU, graduating in 1989 with a business administration degree. While at BYU, she played on the soccer club team as a four-year starter at center midfield.
Rockwood coached in the Utah Olympic Development Program and has coached at the youth club and high school levels. She is also currently the director of BYU summer soccer camps which recently put through over 1,400 participants.

The BYU team leaves for Portland Monday, Sept. 11 arriving there at 11:55 a.m., and will be staying at the Marriott Courtyard Lloyd Center, 435 NE Wasco Street, 503-234-3200, 503-234-1836 fax. BYU returns to Provo on Wednesday, Sept. 13 arriving in Salt Lake City at 8:46 a.m.
