Washington Upsets No. 28 BYU

SEATTLE -- The BYU women's tennis team (2-4) dropped its second match in as many days (4-3) when it played No. 70 Washington on Saturday at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. Despite the loss, the Cougars made adjustments and improvements on the their play from Friday.

"We played well today," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "We're getting better all the time. The girls are starting to learn and take some responsibility for what they're doing out there. With such a young team, we're definitely going in the right direction."

BYU struck first at No. 2 doubles, where Dolly Chang and Kristina Doerr handed Washington's Venise Chan and Kelsey Anonsen their first loss of the year, 8-5. Anastasia Surkova and Jennifer Miccoli's 8-5 win over the Huskies' Joyce Ardies and Tara Simpson clinched the point for the Cougars.

Chang and Chie Hayasaka were the lone Cougars to win their singles matches, with Chang posting an impressive 5-7, 6-1, (10-6) come-from-behind victory. The Taiwan native ended the weekend with a combined 4-0 singles and doubles record.

Up next the Cougars will travel to South Bend, Ind. to take on Notre Dame on Feb. 5.
