FORT COLLINS -- The winning streak continued on Friday as the No. 39 BYU women's tennis team defeated Colorado State 5-2, improving its record to 12-8 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Mountain West Conference play.

"Today was a tough match," said BYU head coach Craig Manning. "[CSU's] a good team. We are struggling to find our rhythm right now. Today was our first time playing outside so far this season, so it was good to get a feel for it."

The Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning doubles matches on the first and second courts. Anastasia Surkova and Jocelyn Jensen posted an 8-6 win over Laura Neal and Anette Pohjalainen. Dolly Chang and Kristina Doerr clinched the point for BYU when they pulled out a close 9-8 (3) win against CSU's Hilary Tyler and Lauren Strasburger.

In singles, No. 65 Surkova defeated Tyler in straight sets (6-3, 6-2), which No. 87 Doerr soon mimicked in her own match against Neal. Freshman Elle Carney guaranteed the win for BYU with her 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 win over the Rams' Caitlin Fluegge.

The Cougars' Chie Hayasaka continued the outstanding play she's exemplified all week, recording a 7-5, 6-3 win over Strasburger at the No. 3 position.

With the outcome of the match already decided, CSU earned two points after Pohjalainen defeated Chang 7-5, 6-3, and Elizaveta Ezhova retired from her match on court six.

BYU will compete again tomorrow against Wyoming at 10 a.m. PT
