PROVO, Utah – The first major outdoor meet of the season awaits the BYU distance runners this weekend at Stanford University.

“Traditionally, Stanford is a very important meet for our distance runners,” BYU track head coach Ed Eyestone said. “It’s our first big outdoor meet of the season. This will be a great time to hopefully get 14 people qualified for regionals.”

The meet will take place April 3-4 at Cobb Track and Angell Field. A link to live results of the meet can be found on the BYU women’s track and field schedule page.

Another group of distance runners will be competing just north of Stanford at a meet hosted by San Francisco State. That meet will also run Friday-Saturday with live results found on the BYU women’s track and field schedule page.

After competing last week at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, the UVU Invitational and the Aztec Invitational, the majority of the throwers, jumpers and sprinters will be off this week.

Athletes to watch

Steve Flint

Flint, a strong steeplechaser, will set out to run a regional qualifying mark in the 5,000 meters Friday evening.

Coming off a successful 2014 cross country season, Gardner will make his debut in the 10,000 meters Friday evening.

As a senior captain and 2013 2nd Team All-American, Brown enters the outdoor season with high expectations. Brown will compete in the 1500 meters on Friday and the 800 meters on Saturday.
