PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field’s Jaslyn Gardner clocked an 11.34 in the women’s 100m trials to set a new program record at the Robison Invitational on Friday.
Gardner set the previous school record two years ago at the 2019 Robison Invitational with a time of 11.38, topping a 22-year-old record set by Windy Jorgensen set in 1997 (11.48). The junior will race again in the 100m final on Saturday.
All-American Alena Ellsworth and Meghan Hunter went 1-2 in the women’s 400m while earning spots on the BYU Top 10 board. Ellsworth ran a 53.26, the third-fastest time in school history, and Hunter clocked a 54.39, the fifth-fastest time in program history.
In the women’s 100m hurdles trials, Adaobi Tabugbo earned her spot in Saturday’s final with a time of 13.53. The freshman’s time marks the eighth-fastest 100m hurdles time in BYU history.
Sable Lohmeier El-Bakri continued her strong season in the women’s hammer throw. The junior was the top collegiate finisher in the event with a 55.82m/183-1.75, moving her up one spot on the BYU Top 10 board to No. 9 all-time.
Rickey Fantroy Jr. won the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.96m/52-4.25. In the men’s high jump, Jacob Veres cleared a career-best 2.16m/7-1 to take first place.
All-American Michael Bluth won the men’s 400m with a time of 46.41 while Landon Maxfield ran a career-best 47.81 to finish second overall. Bluth also ran a 10.61 in the men’s 100m trials to advance to Saturday’s final. Joining Bluth in the 100m final are teammates Andrew Stuart (10.75) and Luc Andrada (10.90).
Cameron Bates won the men’s javelin with a throw of 74.40m/244-1.25 while Michael Whittaker took second place with a personal-best toss of 65.00m/213-3.
In the men’s hammer, Brandon Anderton and Dexter Stephens both recorded personal records with throws of 49.42/162-1.75 and 44.84m/147-1.25, respectively.
Five of the nine athletes competing in the women’s 100m final will be BYU athletes, including Gardner (11.34), Taye Raymond (11.90), Camilla Andam (12.03), Brinn Jensen (12.06) and Hannah Nealis (12.06).
Kyle Strauss (14.32), Caleb Kamalu (15.09) and Ransom Allphin (15.65) each advanced to the men’s 110m hurdles final on Saturday.
Dallin Vorkink won the decathlon that took place Wednesday and Thursday with a total score of 7,323 points. During the competition, he set personal records in the discus with a throw of 42.05m/137-11.5 and the pole vault with a clearance of 5.06m/16-7.25.
Mayci Torgerson took second place in the heptathlon with a combined score of 5,066 points. The freshman had a career performance in the high jump with a clearance of 1.75m/5-9.
