BYU to close out regular season with Cougar Invitational, Sound Running Track Meet

PROVO, Utah – BYU track and field will host the Cougar Invitational at the Clarence F.  Robison Track and Field Complex and send a group of athletes to compete at the Sound Running Track Meet in Irvine, California. The two meets will run Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15.

BYU will close out the regular season this weekend with the Cougar Invitational and Sound Running Track Meet. The majority of the team will be competing at home while a small group of distance runners will head to California for the Sound Running Track Meet.

The Cougar Invitational will primarily feature athletes from BYU, Southern Utah and Delaware.

Admission is free for both days of the Cougar Invitational. Spectators will be required to wear masks and social distance while at the facility.

The BYU men’s team is currently ranked No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s national ratings for the third week in a row. The women’s team has held its ranking of No. 9 for the second consecutive week.

The BYU men’s team entered the week with the top-ranked 1500m squad and 3000m steeplechase squad, according to the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. The Cougars also have the No. 2 5000m squad, No. 3 10,000m squad, No. 4 javelin squad, No. 4 pole vault squad, No. 5 decathlon squad (BYU men’s track and field performance list).

The women’s team currently has the top-ranked 1500m squad and 10,000m squad in the USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings. The Cougars also have the No. 2 800m squad, No. 2 steeplechase squad, No. 2 javelin squad, No. 2 heptathlon squad, No. 5 400m hurdles squad, and No. 7 high jump squad (BYU women’s track and field performance list).
